What is the best kept secret in Fort Lauderdale real estate? That is the “city within a city” of Sea Ranch Lakes. A small enclave of less than 600 homes, Sea Ranch Lakes is its own municipality that is a walled and gated step back in time. A place where children can play in the street and neighbors share a sense of community, Sea Ranch Lakes is like nothing else in Fort Lauderdale.
One of only 2 truly gated neighborhoods (Bay Colony is the other along with a single street in Harbor Beach), the guard gates at Sea Ranch are manned by actual police officers as again Sea Ranch is its own city (still best to think of it as a neighborhood within Fort Lauderdale). Sea Ranch is geographically located on the West side of A1A (beach road), East of the Intracoastal Waterway and about 20 blocks North of Commercial Boulevard. An integral part to the neighborhood is the private beach club located just across from the neighborhood entrance. The beach club offers 300’ of private beach, a huge community pool, and a large clubhouse that was completely rebuilt in the last year or so.
More than a few people jokingly refer to Sea Ranch Lakes as “Mayberry RFD” due to the small town feel. The safety of the guard gates allows for parents to not worry when their kids play out front or ride their bikes to a friend’s house. The neighborhood is home to two large lakes offering great views to the 60 or so homes on them. Another 50 or so homes front the Intracoastal Waterway with everything else being a “drylot”. Many residents could easily afford to live in the more exclusive waterfront neighborhoods (Las Olas, Rio Vista) but choose Sea Ranch for the sense of community and security.
This being Fort Lauderdale, there is always a spot to dock a boat but there is only one Sea Ranch Lakes. Homes range from smaller 3 bedroom ranch homes to larger custom mansions. Sea Ranch Lakes is a true community and is like nothing else in Fort Lauderdale.
