While the technical name is “Coral Ridge Galt”, a more pleasant sounding name of Old Coral Ridge has been in place for many years. Old Coral Ridge is located just to the South of Coral Ridge Country Club and is one of three neighborhoods that compromise the Bayview Drive area (the Landings and Coral Ridge Country Club being the others). This neighborhood is located between Sunrise Boulevard and Oakland Park Boulevard to the North/South and Federal Highway and the Intracoastal Waterway to the East/ West with Bayview Drive cutting the neighborhood in half.
In many respects Old Coral Ridge and Coral Ridge Country Club are practically the same neighborhood (the “Coral Ridge area” to many), the differences are slight but significant to some. Located within Old Coral Ridge lies access to the best public elementary school in Broward, Bayview elementary. For some families this guaranteed access makes their Fort Lauderdale home search start and end with Old Coral Ridge. Also located in Old Coral Ridge is the Coral Ridge Yacht Club and just like with the Coral Ridge Country Club golf course, the difference between 2-3 blocks to the Yacht Club versus 15-20 is a significant factor to certain buyers (the Yacht Club does serve alcohol!!). Many true boaters prefer Old Coral Ridge as the canals are sometimes wider when compared to Coral Ridge Country Club and most water lots in this community offer 100’ of linear water frontage with the potential to legally dock an 80-85’ yacht a must.
It has always been my experience that the majority of buyers drawn to “Coral Ridge” look in both Old Coral Ridge and Coral Ridge Country Club with the house itself the determining factor. But there is always the 10 or 20% who are drawn to one neighborhood or the other be it for Bayview Elementary, proximity to the golf course or yacht club, or a slight preference based on something more intangible.
Mainly the appeal of Old Coral Ridge is the same for all of the Bayview Drive neighborhoods-more “bang for the buck” when compared to the Eastside neighborhoods of SE Fort Lauderdale (Rio Vista, Las Olas), larger lots, close proximity to the area’s best private schools, hospitals, and day to day shopping (grocery stores, dry cleaners, Target)…don’t act like you don’t like Tar-jay!! The Bayview Drive neighborhoods comprise the best of East Fort Lauderdale living, namely the quiet feel of suburbia with all the city convenices at your fingertips and five minutes away (by car of course).
